Iguazu Falls: how to visit from both Argentina and Brazil

Visiting the Iguazu Falls is one of the highlights of both Brazil and Argentina travel itineraries – and rightly so! One of the 7 new wonders of nature, tucked into a three-country border, it is worth the travel.

If you have the opportunity, visiting from both the Argentinan and the Brazilian sides is very interesting – the perspectives, the feel of the reserve and the available pathways are quite different and both astonishing. If you are opting for the boat cruises, the Argentinan side offers more thrills as the boats get closer to the waterfalls.

Below we explain all of the details of how to get to each side of the falls, coming from both Brazil or Argentina.

Here are some views from each side, to get your enthusiasm going:

Brazilian Iguazu Falls

Visiting the Brazilian Falls from Foz do Iguazu, Brazil

Easy peezy!

The total journey should be around 40 min, including waiting for the different buses.

Catch the bus 120 – leaving every 20 minutes from the Bus Terminal and picking you up at the bus stops on the way if you flag them. Bus costs around 0,9€, in 2023.

Visiting the Argentinan Iguazu Falls from Foz do Iguazu, Brazil

The total journey should be around 1-1:30h, including waiting for the different buses.

There are three bus companies taking you from Foz do Iguazu, Brazil, to Puerto Iguazu, Argentina: Rio Uruguay or Cruzeiro del Norte and Itaupu. All of them run buses every hour, or every half an hour in the case of Rio Uruguay. They cost between 1,8€ and 2,7€, in 2023. Buses leave from the Bus Terminal and will pick you up at the bus stops on the way if you flag them.

The buses will stop at the border, but you don’t need to exit if you are just visiting the falls for the day. Remember this because if you leave the bus, you may need to wait one more hour for the next one! – you can use the same ticket you purchased in Foz do Iguazu, but you need to get on a bus from the same company you purchased it initially.

After getting to the Bus Terminal at Puerto Iguazu, you will purchase a new ticket to get you to the Iguazu falls, and here you can go with Rio Uruguay, Cruzeiro del Norte, costing around 1,5€ in 2023. There is no economy in buying the return ticket immediately, and this actually binds you to the company you choose in the terminal, which may not be the most convenient once you are returning.
