Brazil Itinerary
Brazil trully is as special country. Apart from our ease to communicate (as we are portuguese), there seems to be a special vibe in this country. It’s hot, their culture is super strong, music is always playing and Brazilians are just constantly in a happy mood, even in adverse situations. We even joked that the insecurity issues in Brazil exist so that it isn’t perfect – otherwise everyone would just move there!
Our first trip to Brazil took us to the south. We spent 11 days in Rio de Janeiro – and couldn’t help but falling in love. With the warmth, the landscape and the people.
On the next 5 days, we ate our way through São Paulo, with a lot of people watching and culture on the mix. Floripa was the destination for 7 days of beach bumming.
Finally, we based ourselves in Foz do Iguazu for 3 days to visit the Iguazu Waterfalls from both the Brazilian and the Argentinian sides.

Moving around in Brazil
On the south of the country, most destinations are connected by bus. The journeys are quite long but the buses are comfortable and affordable and the roads are in good conditions. Flights are also available though quite expensive.
Larger cities have ride-hailing apps such as Cabify, Uber or others. In Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the subway is super convenient, cheap and mostly safe. In smaller towns, taking a registered taxi is the best option.
Insecurity for tourists in Brazil
We were very concerned about security when travelling to Brazil, specially in Rio de Janeiro. Thus, we followed all the recommendations we were given, while still enjoying our trip the fullest. Our recommendations would be: avoid flaunting (jewelry, technology, clothing), dress modestly, beware of your surroundings, cross the street or enter a shop/restaurant if you are feeling uncomfortable and if you want to do anything at night, call an uber.
