Colombia Itinerary

Music is playing 24/7, the smell of cheesy arepas runs through the streets and buildings come to life with bright-coloured art: welcome to Colombia!  Colombia is a mix of South America, Central America and the Caribbean culture. This combination becomes very clear as you taste the country’s most popular dishes.

There is a bit for every taste: cosmopolitan cities, white-sandy beaches, jungle trekking and rural getaways.

Our journey started in Bogota, where we had our first glimpse of the Colombian groove for 2 days.

Next, we flew to Cartagena, for a very different scenery. Carribean vibes, hot humid weather, tropical fruits and Palenqueras.

From Cartagena we took a bus to Santa Marta region to kick off the 3 day trek to Ciudad Perdida – a challenging yet rewarding experience.

To rest, we headed to Minca, a quiet village up in the mountains above Santa Marta.

Continuing on the chill vibes, we headed back to the coast for a week in Palomino, followed by Tayrona National Park.

We flew south to Medellin, for a few days of city break, lucky enough during the Feria de las Flores.

Last stop was Salento – the coffee region and home to the stunning Vale Cocora.

Moving around in Colombia

Colombia is very well connected by flights. Most of them take between 30 min to 1 hour, frequencies are high and prices are quite low. Opting for flying instead of buses will save you a lot of time in road blocks (one of our 6 hour journeys turned into a 12 hour one).

On the coastal route, between Cartagena, Santa Marta, Tayrona and Palomino, the roads are in good condition and the taking the bus is a safe option.

Larger cities such as Bogota or Medellin have ride-hailing apps such as Cabify, Uber or others. This is the preferred means of transportation after dawn. In Medellin, the subway is efficient, comfortable and safe. The cable cars for views of the cerros are also a great way to move around.
